Top Personal Development Books For Women

Personal Development

Probably the most commonly asked question I get weekly is “What Are You Reading.” I have always had a love for reading. It started at a young age; I would sneak a book into my room and read it with a flashlight under the covers. I can remember many nights as a teen girl mom threatened to take something away if I didn’t put the book away and GO TO BED. It continued into high school and college but the thing was I always read books for pleasure. Mainly fiction as a way to escape reality.

When I became a health and wellness coach one of our main jobs was to focus on not just physical results but personal growth as well. The first time someone told me to read a “personal development” book I scoffed. There was no way I was reading those “self-help” books that would just reaffirm the problems I already knew I had.

What I didn’t realize is that in my physical transformation journey; the biggest change that I would see would be the transformation of my mind. Now it’s the very thing I preach to my clients just HOW incredibly important the growth mindset is. You see we aren’t trees and we don’t have to stay stuck where we are. Personal development is just that it’s personal and unique to each woman’s journey and it doesn’t have to be A LOT. The power of the compound effect is real.

10 minutes a day = 70 minutes a week = 280 minutes a month = 3360 minutes a YEAR of positive, encouraging, motivating, inspirational, life-changing words. That’s a LOT of growth in what is a seemingly insignificant amount of time each day.

PD comes in many different forms, but it often provides real-life examples of how it’s been done and/or practical tools for how to get started. Other times, authors provide exactly the “kick-in-the-butt” motivation that you need to BELIEVE in your- self and say good-bye to the excuses in your subconscious.

PD also often provides new perspectives and may even spark new ideas in you for areas in your life that you didn’t even realize you wanted to grow. It’s even been shown to help with better adaptability to change. Consuming PD can create a healthier, more open mind—stimulating growth in ways that promote more happiness and fulfillment.
